Kiev: MKs take part in inter-parliamentary conference on anti-Semitism

The conference in Kiev

An inter-parliamentary conference on anti-Semitism opened in Kiev on Monday with the participation of delegates and legislators from numerous countries, including the United States, Canada, France, Belgium, Lithuania, Iceland, Georgia, Moldova, and others. The Knesset is being represented by MKs Yoel Razvozov (Yesh Atid), Orly Froman (Blue and White), and Esawi Frej (Meretz), and Knesset Knesset Director-General Albert Sakharovich.

The conference is an initiative of Ukrainian MP Georgiy Logvinsky, who chairs the Ukraine-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The conference opened with speeches by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder and Israel Ambassador to Kiev Joel Lion, who also read Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s greeting to the participants.

During a panel on Jewish identity in the 21st century, MK Froman said “we are in the capital of Ukraine, but our hearts are with the residents of [south Israel], the families of those killed, and the wounded. It is important that the Jewish communities do not feel detached from the State of Israel. The unity of the Jewish nation is not just something that is talked about, it is our essence."

Judaism, MK Froman added, “is much more than just performing mitzvahs or praying to G-d; Judaism also has social, communal and cultural aspects to it. Judaism is not just a religion; it is not even just a nation; it is mainly culture and education."

MK Razvozov and Director-General Sakharovich addressed the productive relations between the Knesset and Ukraine's parliament – the Verkhovna Rada.

The Knesset’s representatives are scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy, President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky and other senior officials.
