Meeting between MK Avigdor Liberman (L) and Rep. Eliot L. Engel
MK Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beitenu) met on Wednesday with Rep. Eliot L. Engel (D-NY), Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the U.S. House of Representatives, who is in Israel for a series of meetings with senior officials. MKs Oded Forer (Yisrael Beitenu) and Eli Avidar (Yisrael Beitenu) also attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, Rep. Engel jokingly told MK Liberman that he was the “man of the hour," and then told the Yisrael Beitenu chairman that he values people who stick to their principles.
The meeting centered on the situation in the Middle East, particularly on issues related to Iran and Lebanon.
Rep. Engel also said he views with severity the remarks made by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) a few months ago. Rep. Omar posted a tweet implying that Jewish Americans, particularly the AIPAC lobby, pay members of Congress to take a pro-Israel stance.
Rep. Engel said he was under the impression that people in Israel understand that her comments do not reflect the positions of the Democratic Party.
