Speaker of the Knesset MK Yuli-Yoel Edelstein (Likud) held a meeting with Montenegro's President Milo Đukanović at the Knesset on Wednesday. During the meeting, President Đukanović said he hopes to attract Israeli investors to his country, noting that Montenegro has great business potential.
Speaker Edelstein and President Đukanović discussed ways Israel and Montenegro can advance the economic cooperation between them, as well as cooperation in the areas of security and tourism. Speaker Edelstein suggested that the countries also intensify their parliamentary relations.
President Đukanović is considered a friend of Israel, and he was recently presented with the "European King David Award", the highest honor given by the European Jewish Association (EJA) to prominent figures, "in recognition of his huge contribution in safeguarding Jewish life in Montenegro, and building a tolerant society that should be emulated across the European Continent," according to a statement released by the EJA. The ceremony took place in Brussels.
