The Knesset will elect the next State Comptroller on June 3, Speaker of the Knesset MK Yuli-Yoel Edelstein (Likud) informed his fellow MKs on Monday.
The State Comptroller is elected by the Knesset in a secret ballot to one seven-year term, during a session convened exclusively for that purpose.
Following consultations with the deputy Knesset speakers, Speaker Edelstein announced that, in accordance with the State Comptroller Law, only a person nominated by at least ten members of Knesset shall be a candidate for State Comptroller.
Under the law, the nomination of a candidate for State Comptroller shall be submitted in writing to the Speaker of the Knesset, together with the candidate's written consent, on the fourteenth day before the date of election. A member of Knesset may not nominate more than one candidate.
